How to play a drawing game
Two teams take turns. The artist reads the word, then draws it on paper or a whiteboard while their team guesses. No letters, numbers or spoken clues. Guess it before the timer beeps to score a point.
- Get paper or a whiteboard. Each team needs something to draw on and a marker.
- Pick a difficulty. Easy suits kids, Hard suits adults who like a challenge.
- Reveal the word. The artist presses Next and reads the word without showing it.
- Draw before the beep. Start the timer. No letters, numbers or talking.
- Score. Press Got it for a point, then pass the turn.
Why only drawable words
Film and song titles are great for charades but hard to sketch. This page uses only prompts tagged as drawable, about 700 of them, so you will not be stuck trying to draw an idea like Commuting. Easy words are single objects like Kite or Snail. Hard words, like Sundial or Platypus, need more detail.
Drawing tips
- Start with the biggest shape, then add one detail that gives it away.
- Draw an arrow to point at the part that matters.
- Split compound words: draw a sun, then a flower, for Sunflower-style words.
- Keep it rough. Speed beats art.
